Pricing and quotes

How do you charge β€” hourly or a flat price?

One all-inclusive hourly rate. It covers the truck, fuel, blankets, shrink wrap, tape, furniture disassembly and reassembly, stairs, long carries, floor protection, wardrobe boxes on move day, and travel time. There is no separate charge for any of those.

Is the rate different on weekends or holidays?

No. The same rate applies every day of the week. Plenty of movers quote a low weekday number and add a surcharge for Saturdays β€” we don't.

What is not included?

Packing materials if you want us to pack your home for you, and specialty items such as a piano or a gun safe. We'll tell you before you book, not after.

Do you charge for travel time?

It's already in the hourly rate rather than added as a separate line.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

Usually yes, for a straightforward local move. For larger homes, difficult access, or commercial jobs we'd rather do a free on-site or video estimate β€” a guess that turns out wrong helps nobody.

Why is your quote higher than the cheapest one I've been given?

Often because the cheap quote isn't the whole price. Ask any mover whether stairs, long carries, materials, assembly and travel time are included, and whether the company doing the work is the company you're signing with. Comparing all-in numbers is the only fair comparison.

Booking and scheduling

How far ahead should I book?

One to two weeks is comfortable for a local move. Weekends and the last week of the month fill first. Commercial and office moves want two weeks minimum, and a month for larger or after-hours jobs.

Can you do a last-minute move?

Often, yes. Call and ask β€” we've rescued plenty of moves at short notice, including people whose original mover cancelled on them the morning of.

What happens after I request a quote?

We call you back, usually within the hour during business hours. We'll ask about access, parking, stairs and anything fragile, then confirm the crew size, the truck and the rate before you commit to anything.

Who answers the phone?

Mia does, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm Pacific. Not a call centre, not an AI. If you call outside those hours, leave a message and you'll get a call back.

Packing

Do you pack for me, or do I pack myself?

Either. We can pack the whole home, or just the rooms you'd rather not do β€” the kitchen and the fragile items are our most popular partial pack, because those are the slowest and riskiest to do yourself.

How long does packing take?

A homeowner packing a three-bedroom home properly takes roughly 20 to 30 hours. A two-person crew does the same house in six to eight. Most people have never estimated the number, which is why packing is what they most often underestimate.

Do I need to buy boxes?

No. If we're packing, boxes, paper, bubble wrap, tape, dish barrels and wardrobe boxes come with the crew and are included in the service.

When does packing happen?

Usually the day before the move, so move day starts with loading rather than scrambling. Smaller partial packs can happen the same morning. It's scheduled during your estimate.

Do I need to empty my dresser drawers?

Usually not for a local move β€” most dressers travel as they are. We'll tell you at the estimate if yours is an exception.

Moving day

Who actually shows up?

Our own crew, in our own truck. Everyone who walks into your home is a background-checked full-time employee. We are not a broker and we do not subcontract or use day labor.

What if my building needs a certificate of insurance?

Ask us and we'll send one. Most Bellevue and downtown Seattle towers require a COI naming the building, and many also require you to reserve the freight elevator days ahead β€” that reservation is the single most common cause of a delayed move day, so sort it early.

What about parking?

In-city moves often need a temporary no-parking permit from SDOT, and those take a few business days to issue. Worth arranging the same week you book.

What can't you move?

Federal and state rules keep hazardous materials off the truck: propane tanks, gasoline, motor oil, paint and solvents, aerosols, pool chemicals, fire extinguishers and ammunition. Perishable food can't travel either. Keep passports, jewelry, cash, keys and irreplaceable documents with you personally.

Do you move pianos, safes or other heavy specialty items?

Tell us what you have when you book. Specialty items need the right equipment and the right number of people, and both need to be planned rather than discovered on the day.

Licensing, insurance and trust

Are you licensed?

Yes. WA UTC THG070086 for household goods moves within Washington, and USDOT 3666304 / MC 1562374 for interstate authority. Washington requires a permit to move household goods, and the register is public.

How do I check a mover's licence?

Look it up at utc.wa.gov before you book β€” ours included, and every other mover you're considering. Two things worth checking: does the licence number match the name on the contract, and did the company recently get new numbers. A mover that changed its name and started fresh numbers has reset its complaint history, which is usually the point.

Are you insured?

Yes, with full commercial cargo and liability coverage. We'll provide a certificate of insurance for your building on request.

Weren't you called Rainy Day Movers?

Yes. We changed the name in 2026 β€” same family, same crews, same phone number, same address and the same licence numbers. Nothing else changed.

How many reviews do you have?

More than 400 five-star reviews across Google, Yelp and Thumbtack, most of them written before the name change.
